The Boroughs (Welcome to the Boroughs)
There are scenes where Boroughs achieves something resembling pathos, almost all of which involve Kaszmarek and Molina putting the hokey “this place is evilllllllllllll” plot to the side and explore grief in a well-trod but nonetheless appreciated manner. Most of the time, however, Boroughs settles for having its characters explain their feelings and flatly state the exposition; I get that this is place setting for later, but that doesn’t mean it has to suck in the moment. It’s better as a Secret Sunshine knockoff than as a Stranger Things knockoff, and considering the sci-fi trappings telegraph where this is headed…
