Prometheus (2012 film)

The film begins with some dork disintegrating after drinking something and falling into a waterfall; we’re then shown a pair of scientists who say “wow, look at how advanced this dork’s people were!”. I don’t know how much more transparently Prometheus could spell out that it is a feature-length attempt at destroying romantic notions of intelligent creation. These scientists are written to be optimistic dummies as their character flaws, so the numerous deaths come across as karmic comeuppance above problems with the script. It’s a messy film with a meandering second act, but I got a kick out of this.
