Jaws (1975 film)

There are films that are older than Jaws that succeed at being more thrilling and more unsettling; The Texas Chain Saw Massacre came out the year prior. Jaws develops a refreshing dynamic between three distinct personalities, but it takes over an hour to get to that point and we’re watching beachgoers be chodes until then. The film surrounding its truly outstanding moments, like Quint’s monologue, isn’t as good as other 70s horror fare, with its only noteworthy innovation being that it is bloodless enough to appeal to mass audiences (groan). Still better than the first Friday the 13th, I guess.
