In the Name of the Father (1993 film)
Maddening fingerprints of 90s cinema kept me from enjoying this as much as many others have (though: still liked it!). The soundtrack is the biggest problem here, sometimes cloyingly telling the audience how to feel when the visuals and acting are plenty able to carry that weight, a pitfall made worse by many of the original compositions being amazing. Beyond that, Jim Sheridan shoots his action well and Daniel Day-Lewis is, well, Daniel Day-Lewis, so these two hours went down easily. Pity this came out the same awards season as Schindler’s List, but time has been kind to this one.
