Cape Fear (1991 film)

I wanted this to be over almost as soon as it started. Even Scorsese wasn’t immune to the 90s trappings of an overblown soundtrack and more Dutch angles than a German math class, rendering the proceedings easier to interpret as a comedy than a drama, or they would be if the villain wasn’t constantly committing or threatening to commit SA. The result is a film that had me facepalming for most of its duration, wishing I could laugh at how dumb everyone here was. De Niro’s clearly having fun and that scene actually works; that’s all I have for compliments.
