The best wrestling game on the Nintendo 64 by some measure. On top of the makeshift MMA system that allows a match between Bas Rutten and Mitsuharu Misawa to play out like it would’ve if it had ever happened, matches aren’t simple kick-punch affairs (that’s a No Mercy critique!) but actual grapplefests between combatants who feel wildly different from each other, even if it’s between tag partners with solid synergy. Couple this with playing to the systems strengths without overtaxing it (hey, that’s two No Mercy critiques!) and you’ve got a wild ride so long as you know your puroresu.
