Twin Peaks (Realization Time and The Last Evening)

I know it is borderline blasphemous to lobby harsh critique against the beloved first season of one of the most celebrated shows of all time, but maybe this should’ve been only six episodes. The plot revelations and emotional tones of the season’s latter half are light enough that condensing them into a shorter timespan might have done wonders for the pacing of the back half, where things slow to a crawl. The finale at least has some genuine surprises, which is more than can be said for “Realization Time”. Not bad episodes, but this season ends worse than it begins.

5 for “Realization Time”, 6 for “The Last Evening”
