Considering how many working in media are quick to hand over the keys to the city to overhyped hacks, it’s nice to know there are people who demand narratives and purpose from the work they watch, who also acknowledge that raising the bar means what’s come before is lowered in value. Hawke gets it, and wants others to get it, too, and while not everyone will agree with what he has to say, at least someone is daring to judge an art form as, well, an art form rather than something to stare at until your body atrophies and collapses.
