Pride and Prejudice (2005 film)

Y’all can shout up and down about how the 1995 version was truer (and, thus, “automatically” better), as though having Mr. Collins be an autistic-coded mess isn’t an improvement over the dude being a straight jerk. Frankly, aside from arguably The Spectacular Now, I don’t know if there’s been a better romantic comedy released so far this millennium. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, it’s all gorgeously shot, classic scenes abound (“barely tolerable”, the ballroom dance, the hands, the scene in the rain—come on, now), and I wanted more at the end of its two hours. Easy recommendation.
