Metroid Dread

If Metroid is supposed to be the closest Nintendo will ever come to making a horror game, Dread is the purest realization of the ambitions of the franchise. Fusion, its spiritual predecessor, laid the groundwork with its evocation of hopelessness, but Dread not only has better sequences of being stalked, many of the bosses in the latter half of the game make one long for those nigh-unkillable beasts. Conveyance towards the next goal isn’t always clear in the first half and some encounters could’ve stood to be toned down, but this makes Silksong look like Freddy Got Fingered in comparison.
