Graduation (2016 film)
I love how Mungiu’s films are loaded with craft without overtly showcasing this team’s abilities. There are long shots here, wonderful blocking, and convincing acting from most of the cast, but at no point during Graduation was I thinking about the quality of the production as this was all in service of drawing me into this understated story, teeming with allegory and purpose but, true to form, fully functioning as an engaging work for folk unwilling to contemplate the meaning behind the color of the drapes. A wonderful, soul-crushing experience; when is his next film coming out? October? Can’t wait.
