Don’t Say Good Luck

This is a film that cares about its characters, what they do, how they feel, how they expresses themselves, and where they’re going, and it is so fully realized, from Hart’s excellent direction to outstanding performances from nearly the whole cast (including Sandler, who could be on the A-list within five years), that it would take a true contrarian with a heart of stone to not feel something here. Also outstanding are the musical numbers, no mere interruptions but purposeful reinforcement of the themes of acceptance, community, and forgiveness. Happy Madison’s most artistically meaningful film by a country mile.
