Better Call Saul (Season One) (revisited)
“Five-O”, while otherwise well-executed, was too much flat melodrama focused on a side character for my present tastes, and the finale dragged for me. Besides that, this was a promising start, Saul continuing its parent show’s preference for long-term storytelling over the easy thrill while generally also acknowledging that throwing in unconventional cinematography and/or soundtrack choices will make another scene where Jimmy pretends to care about a room of fogies go down smooth. Still not sure this story needed to be told (I’m an adult, I can imagine how Saul broke bad), but as entertainment, this season was easy viewing.
