Being John Malkovich
So much has been written about the philosophical journey expressed in this film (a train of thought Being practically begs its audience not to do) that it gives the impression John Malkovich is impenetrable, easier to admire than to enjoy. Surprise—it’s a sharply-written dark comedy, perhaps the best of the past thirty years, where the punchlines come fast and hard and work in service of a ludicrous but engaging farce about three terrible people; I lost count of how many lines that registered at first as ludicrous non-sequitur turned out to be fantastic foreshadowing. Far better than Eternal Sunshine.
