Beef (Season One)

The pedigree for this one left me hesitant to watch it; the half an episode I watched of Tuca & Bertie was as annoying as one-quarter an episode of Schitt’s Creek. Thankfully, my concerns didn’t hold water as Beef is a smart show about dumb people, where licensed music choices often have meaning besides punctuating dramatic moments (the use of The Offspring’s “Self Esteem” was a highlight) and animal motifs add dimension to the proceedings that probably could have ended on the green by just being “the show where someone masturbates with a gun”. Damn excellent television by any measure.
