Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas
Notwithstanding legions of well-meaning peers talking this up like a holy text, my lone complaint about Nightmare is a lack of a resonant emotional denouement. Consequence of being so short, perhaps, but Christmas plows through the beats of its third act so quickly, the hero experiencing his low point and finding renewed strength occur in the same song. Aside from that, this is a hysterical ride, perhaps not the best 90s animated musical but easily the most infectious and the one least afraid of engaging with delirious imagery. This is a breeze of a watch and a joy to behold.
