The Sheep Detectives

It wasn’t too long ago that films placing anthropomorphic animals in emotionally complicated situations was neither setup nor punchline, and that anyone (hand raised, admittedly) could be surprised such media could work in a modern setting is minor damnation of audience expectation. That said, Detectives runs laps around the “classics” of old, weaving a parable about loss and spirituality with hysterical direction that ensures the film where someone tries counting sheep before passing out will leave you in tears during its coda. In a world where Obsession doesn’t exist, this film would easily be the most welcome surprise of 2026.
