The Mummy (1999 film)

The 90s was a bad time for remakes, splashing the decade’s brand of cheese over so many genres, including family and horror, that you may have forgotten about The Jungle Book, lucky you. Unlike The Haunting, however, The Mummy’s cheesiness acts like a feature, not a bug, as it is more of a rollicking swashbuckler than a horror film, made at the precious time when the CG that looked good in small doses actually was used in small doses (the early Aughts were rough). A work can be dumb as long as it’s fun, and The Mummy is dumb fun.
