Raya and the Last Dragon
It would be easier to recommend this if its characters didn’t put their pants on their hands and dance under brittle trees during a thunderstorm at crucial junctions. The animation is beautiful and the wit is considerable, though not the best I’ve seen this year among animated films in either category, but the effects of “Dargon”’s troubled production are tangible as it stumbles through its inciting incident and climax (ten credited writers—just saying). It’s still funny and engaging enough to earn a recommendation and I’m sure the target audience would love it, but I was hoping for something better.
