Man Up (2015 film)

Overly introverted woman pretends to be the blind date of a man who is into manic dream pixie girls. That’s a plot summary that elicits a tired “oh boy”, but the resulting film is better than implied as complete arcs are given to both main characters and the film never takes itself too seriously. Also, Lake Bell and Simon Pegg are perfectly cast—the story calls for comic voices going through rough shit, and that reads like the filmography of both. I’m hesitant to call this anything above “pretty good”, but its big gestures are earned and that’s not insignificant.
